This is Kira Muscat, age 18, residing in Mellieha with her parents Paul and Pam Muscat. Kira was born with Spina bifida, which is a birth defect that involves the incomplete development of the spinal cord or its coverings. Because of this, Kira can not walk or move her legs at all. She is an amazing young lady and copes with life so well and independently, attending school, socialising and even catching buses all by herself although she is wheel chair bound.
A recent problem Kira has been facing is further pain and injury to her spine due to the fact that she has to climb numerous stairs using her arms to lever herself up one step at a time to reach her bedroom. The plan is to install a lift. Although the lift should be partially subsidised by the government the Muscat family still need to raise at least 7000 euros to date. With a family of 5 kids, as one can imagine, saving this amount could take a very long time!
